Janina Nawarskas was born in 1936 in Lithuania and lived a comfortable life with her parents and brothers until World War II started. The war abruptly destroyed those comforts, leaving her an orphan child attempting to survive in the Hellish ruins of war torn Europe.During the next five years Janina's mother died at the age of 36, and Janina, alone at the age of six years, was separated from her father and brothers until they were reunited in 1948.Janina and her father emigrated to the United States in the year 1949 to build a new future. She lived first in Minnesota with her father. Later, she moved to Waterbury, CT at the urging of her brother, Victor, who already settled there. Janina worked in various positions in Connecticut, the most rewarding one as a member of the U.S. Post Office from which she retired after completing 25 years of service.She now follows various interests in her life, traveling and enjoying life and all that it offers....On one particular day in May, 1947, three years after our tearful separation at the German border, while cleaning the room I saw a man at the doorway speaking with one of the refugees and then beginning to walk towards me.I started at him, and although he seemed to know me, I did not recognize him at first glance. He stooped down and said to me "I am your father!!!"
