Wilde began writing in prose, then attempted a lyrical version before deciding to explore his subject in a play.

Synopsis
Outraged by the sexual perversity of this one-act tragedy play, Lord Chamberlain of the United Kingdom barred Salomé from the national stage. Symbolist poets and authors defended the play's literary excellence, including Stéphane Mallarmé and Maurice Maeterlinck. Aside from its notoriety, the drama's haunting poetic imagery, biblical cadences, and feverish atmosphere have won it a reputation as a masterpiece of the fin de siècle English Aesthetic movement.
This sinister tale of a woman scorned, and her vengeance was translated into English by Lord Alfred Douglas. The play inspired some of Aubrey Beardsley's finest illustrations. This volume reprints the complete text of the first English edition, published in 1894, and includes "A Note on Salomé" by Robert Ross, Wilde's lifelong friend and literary executor.

A Classic Reprint
This Classic One Act Play will make a fantastic addition to your own classic’s library, as well as an excellent gift to those fascinated with The Writings Of Oscar Wilde or even those Oscar Wilde Plays buffs in your life.
