the-gospels-matthew-mark-luke-and-john-one-novel-narrative-3rd-edition-study-guide
The Gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John: One Novel Narrative, 3rd Edition, Study Guide
The Gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John: One Novel Narrative, 3rd Edition, Study Guide combines the Gospels into one account to relate the events of Jesus Christ's life on earth as a novel with chapters, paragraphs, and quotation marks. An introduction, subtitles, footnotes, endnotes, and index help readers navigate the life and teaching of Jesus.

Having taught children’s church for many years, and having written numerous children’s books, it has been a dream to place all four books of the Gospels into one book that reads like a novel. The First Edition of this book was the fulfillment of that dream. The Second Edition was a larger print, easier to read edition. Like the first two editions, this third edition, The Gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John: One Novel Narrative, 3rd Edition, Study Guide is not written for formal purposes. It is an introduction to the Gospels. It can be studied alone or in a classroom setting. This third edition has 40 chapters, which fit with a typical 40-week school year. Each chapter includes subject or event headings, which makes it easier to assign readings, and then pause to reflect or discuss.

The main source for this 3rd Edition narrative is (like the first and second edition) A Harmony of the Gospels for the Students of the Life of Christ by the honorable A.T. Robertson, original copyright 1922, which is based on the Broadus Harmony in the Revised Version. Also used was Baker’s Harmony of the Gospels, King James Version, Editor Benjamin Davies, 1994 printing. (And even though sometimes not agreed with, Davies’s table of contents, which attempts to align the four Gospel accounts of Jesus, was helpful.) Also helpful were many other versions of the Bible, including but not limited to The New Testament in Modern English translated by J.B. Phillips, Zondervan’s The Amplified New Testament, The New King James Bible, and The Harper Collins Study Bible, New Revised Standard Version to make the “New King James” more clearly understood. (Can anyone ever really understand absolutely everything about the meaning of everything in the Gospels? For now, we “see through the glass darkly.”) What this, in part, means is the Gospels were written in Greek. Any time one translation goes from one language to another, the translation runs the risk of slightly changing a word’s meaning. Reliance on the above English translators was for them to have done their homework, and when in doubt, use a variety of online sources to look up the original Greek. Bible Hub (www.biblehub.com/) was most helpful. If a Biblical scholar, or anyone, sees mistakes, the mistakes are purely this editor’s. In addition, an italicized word or two is added in parentheses to help the translation be more fully understood in our vernacular.

Footnotes were added sparingly and only to supply information or explain a passage to a new reader. Footnotes are helpful due to the fact that four different men wrote four different books. Most of the time their accounts align making it easy to see the chronology of events, other times not so much. Mention is made when they don’t align exactly. Furthermore, no one knows the exact time and place of every single event in the Gospels. Any thoughtful, reasonable (reasonable being the most important clarifying qualifier) placement is just as correct as another. Editors of all books like this one (this editor included) have to be humble and realize the exact placement of every event is not exactly known, and mistakes might be made, even when their heart is in the right place. To keep some footnotes from becoming too long, some End Notes are provided to add further clarification. An index of events and teachings of Jesus Christ is included.
ASIN: B0GWLX6XXY
VSKU: BVV.B0GWLX6XXY.G
Condition: Good
Author/Artist:Love, Donna|Love, Donna M
Binding: Paperback
Note: Any images shown are stock photographs and product may differ from what is shown.
Condition Notes: The item shows wear from consistent use, but it remains in good condition and works perfectly.
