A Brief Atlas of My Inner World

How does what we are going through color our experience of a place? How do our surroundings affect our perspective? Even when we are present, we are never only just where we are. We view the world through our years of compounded perceptions and programming, and our internal lens skews our interaction with the circumstances around us. Inner narratives tangle with the essence and minutia of people and places, and we feel them as we are, not necessarily as they are. This is a story of the relationship between location and emotion, between a self awakening and a self enmeshed; an account of running away and rediscovering home on an intersection of scales. In a year-long journal, a seeker explores the world and the world within. From a watercolor reality, she paints her journey through daunting existential terrain in introspective poetry, metaphoric prose, and tales of her adventures as she travels in an effort to heal from depression. The landscape within will always overlay the backdrop on which we find ourselves, at times making it more difficult to find our way. But there are landmarks on the geography of a soul, a few sparse cairns on the healing path. An inner wayfinding can be accessed if only we can open the aperture between the sensory experience and the witness within.
