Description

Written by a local historian, this book shares the history of the Morongo Basin communities of Twentynine Palms, Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, Pioneertown, Landers, and Johnson Valley. Also included are the communities of Yucca Mesa, Flamingo Heights, 29 Palms Marine Base, Rimrock, and Wonder Valley, as well as the history of the many pioneers who moved there. These pioneers arrived in the desert, long before civilization would follow in their path. Many of the pioneers stayed only a short time, while many long remained. Some of their exciting life stories have been told in one form or another over the years; but as many stories go, they may be forgotten until shared again. These pioneers helped shape the communities as we know them today. These are their stories; a history of the Morongo Basin.
