A Little Backyard: Mischief

Welcome to A Little Backyard Mischief! The Ellis family, Thomas, Adrienne, Claire and Estelle, live in the cozy neighborhood of Leelands Woods. Grandma is visiting and on this early morning she is enjoying her coffee out on the back porch. She loves to get up early so she can watch the backyard come alive with activity. Cali, the family cat, cleans herself on the table nearby and then calmly nestles in beside Grandma's feet on the floor. She seems to aggravate the birds and they start reacting nervously to her presence. In the back yard there is a tree house Thomas built for the girls, a fence line and trees. This is where two catbirds, two doves, a family of robins and Squirrel share their living space. They are starting out their day like most animals. They begin their search for food at daybreak. Their babies are hungry, so the furry friends get busy to provide for them. Loud chirps and screeching can be heard from the porch as they fly from one stop to another and hurry back to their nests with their food. As the family wakes up and begins traveling to the kitchen, Grandma laughs as Adrienne struggles to help a stray bird off the porch screen and out the door. The girls and Abby, the 15 year old family dog, venture out to see the commotion going on. They all watch as the birds begin to squawk at each other to get out of the way. Squirrel makes an appearance and barely escapes from an angry catbird. As the day progresses they become more tolerant of each other, but still squawk when another comes close to the space they are protecting. By the end of the day, each has settled into a gentle chirp, or maybe they just have grown tired of squawking. As the day turns to night along the back yard fence line, all is quiet.
