A New Age Begins (The Last Wizard of Orth)

The story opens with the introduction to Kyrzon, The Watcher. While the book goes on to introduce the reader to the other major characters, with a variety of sub-plots, it is Kyrzon, dark, stoic, and lacking in social skills, who sets the story into motion. Kyrzon has lived a millennium and more keeping the Wizard's Watch against the rise of an ancient evil. He has become the stuff of legend though few believe he truly exists. Kyrzon stands as the last of the cabal of wizards that helped advise the rulers, and kingdoms of Orth until they were mostly destroyed during the great war of the races. The dark god, who was defeated in that war, did not die. Rather, he withdrew into the bowels of the planet vowing to return one day. In a final whim, he pulled the essence of his general, Lord Shazzura, from the man's physical body and placed that essence in a crystal. Thus, the God might call upon Shazzura to rise again in the distant future to war against the God of Light. As the years passed, the old stories became forgotten and the races separated themselves. Among them were the elves, the gnomes, the trolls, the humans, the dwarves, and the dragons. Division and mistrust were at the heart of the separations and the worship of the Light faded into near nonexistence. Now, Kyrzon has received a warning from the beyond that the Dark God is stirring and Shazzura has been called back into his service. The races of Orth are no longer united and only one man has a hope of defeating Shazzura. Only one man can wield the fabled sword, Illuminator, and both must be found if good is to survive. The quest begins as Kyrzon, The Watcher, leaves Dreadspire Keep to find the one man whose bloodline can operate the power of the sword. Along the way, pitfalls seem to block their paths and other players are introduced. Though each is a separate piece of the overall puzzle, their stories and backgrounds are all orchestrated to work together to bring about the forces needed to unite the lands and the peoples.
