A People For God: A Sprint Through the Old Testament

What is the purpose of the Bible? What is it all about? The answer to that can be found in the scripture itself. The Bible is about God's plan to carve out of history "A People for Himself". But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR GOD’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9; Deut 4:20 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” Revelation 7:9-10 Ths is a a high level survey, a sprint, through the Old Testament of the Bible. There is a common mis-perception among modern Christians and others that the Old Testament is “old” as in replaced by a newer model. Some go so far as to believe that the God reflected in the Old Testament is mean and judgmental, not like the kinder, gentler Jesus of the New Testament. They may miss the heart of the Father reflected in many places in the scriptures preceding Jesus. Consider, though, that Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God from these Old Testament scriptures. He talked about Adam and Eve, Abraham, Moses, David, Daniel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Jonah. He spoke of the scriptures being fulfilled in Him. These scriptures were all from the collection of books we call the Old Testament. After His resurrection, Jesus explained to His disciples all about Himself from the scriptures, from Moses through all the prophets.
