After the War: Notes from the Field

This collection is my attempt to bear witness to the six years I spent working on locked wards in psychiatric facilities. It took me a long time to figure out how to write about what I saw there—the patients, the system, and the way the "sickness" follows you home. These poems are field notes from the smoking patios and nursing stations, capturing the honest pain of the "real ones" on the unit and out in the world. This is Merwin's 3rd book of poetry following the release of Songs For Hungry Ghosts published by Cavity Search Records.
