With this trip, Lorna became immersed in the culture and foods that surrounded her, so you ‘foodies’ out there, be prepared to have your appetites awakened and your palates teased as you read about the bounty that is available to those adventuresome enough to try something new and definitely different! “The pièce de résistance was a vinaigrette salad made with tomatoes and sea grapes freshly harvested from the sea. The small green spheres tasted like caviar eggs, bursting in the mouth to release a salty, tangy taste." Along with the food adventures, Lorna found more of her inner strength to meet people as she saw them. “My encounters with people were proving more interesting than those with aquatic life… We were strangers sharing a unique adventure… One could open up to a stranger and tell them personal thoughts that would be awkward sharing with a friend or relative… I was learning that things are not always as expected, that I had to give up control and ‘go with the flow’… Also, never to pass a comfort station. ‘GO’ before you go because the next comfort station may not come for a long time." When Lorna learned that the Filipino word for grandmother was lola, and she was ‘Lola Lorna,’ she was reminded of her own grandmothers and their place in her young life. Lorna carries around fate and serendipity in her backpack, and you will see so many examples of both in her latest offering.
