Description

"In May of 1982, Michael and Lynda Leamy moved their family to Greenwood Cemetery, an historic cemetery south of Astoria. They knew nothing of cemetery operations, but Greenwood was available, affordable, and in the busiest, most critical month of the year for cemeteries, it was theirs...to get polished and presentable within three weeks. On Memorial Weekend, Greenwood would be flooded with vehicles bringing crowds of visitors with armloads of flowers. The crowds would need help locating graves, and Michael and Lynda were unacquainted with the maps and the grounds. The visitors would expect the acres to be mowed, and the vegetation around the stones to be trimmed. All Michael had mowed was hay, and the hay field did not have obstacles. They survived the short learning curve. In forty years, they have progressed from ignorance to being consultants. Like the mowing in a pioneer cemetery, it has been a bumpy ride. Here is their story of Life in the Cemetery."--page 4 of cover.
