While many political analyses of feudalism exist, particularly notable ones being those by Bloch and Ganshof, an economic model of feudalism has been less explored. Witold Kula's work is a pioneering attempt to develop such a model, focusing on the economic rationality behind production in feudal agrarian systems. Kula's empirical data comes from the history of Polish agriculture, spanning the sixteenth century and beyond, a period when Poland was a significant European grain producer and its peasantry faced late medieval serfdom.
