An Interview with President Custer

A young newspaper reporter, Ethan Thorne, lands the assignment of a lifetime: to interview the aging former President, George Armstrong Custer, for the upcoming 50th anniversary of his election. Custer, who likes to be called General Custer, lives on a horse farm just outside of Washington, D.C. At first, General Custer appears to have a strong voice but little control of his hands because he keeps dropping his pipe. He starts by discussing his time at West Point where he is still renown for earning so many demerits as to risk being expelled. He graduated at the bottom of his class. General Custer discusses is military career during the war, his actions in the Native-American Wars (some good, some not so good), his rise to the presidency, and his life after retirement. Along the way, Ethan must keep Custer from getting off track while trying to get the story of the man behind the myths. President Custer's legacy is complicated, just like the man. His body might not be strong at the age of 87, but his character is.
