Description
Steve Aponavicius, nicknamed Sid Vicious by his Boston College coaches and teammates, never played a game of organized football in his life. Then, he was discovered kicking field goals for fun and walked on to the Eagles’ squad. In 2006, he made his unexpected – and perfect—debut. Three years later, BC’s Sid Vicious broke all previous records and became the all-time leading scorer on the team that over the years produced stars such as 1984 Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie and 2009 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Matt Ryan. Not since Rudy has a story of a walk-on so inspired the college football world. But with apologies to Notre Dame fans, Rudy only participated in two plays. Sid Vicious defied the odds by walking-on, persevering, and excelling to the delight of all who watched. Here is the story of the unlikeliest of kicking heroes with the tough-to-pronounce last name.
