Description
For beaders, polymer clay and lampwork artists, weavers, and jewelers this is a fun, versatile and easily-learned method to make finger-woven bracelets, necklaces, tassels and straps. Detailed photos illustrate every step. Design ideas and a gallery of work by the author and guest artists augment the basic instructions. Use finger weaving to create many different looks, including one that's uniquely your own!
This figure-8, finger-weaving method allows you to feature a wide variety of special treasures, such as lampwork or other handmade beads, buttons, and charms, creating exquisite jewelry and accessories. Originally derived from techniques used by indigenous peoples in Nepal and Tibet, Atkins has developed contemporary styling and advanced methods, which are fully revealed with easy-to-follow instructions and step-by-step photographs.
According to Atkins, “You can see how much I adore this finger weaving technique, because I've been developing and teaching it for over 15 years! Many of my students have fallen in love with it too, continuing to work with it far beyond their original class project. I am grateful to my students, for they have been my teachers - from them I've learned how best to communicate each and every step, as well as how to teach about the design process - and they are the inventors of some of techniques described in the Advanced Weaving chapter. In this book, I've kept no secrets, held nothing back. Yet the possibilities are endless, the door just barely open. Now it's up to you to see where this wonderful, versatile form will go next!”
