Bearer of the Pipe

Don Coldsmith continues his critically acclaimed saga of the People - a band of Native Americans who roamed the Great Plains between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. In Bearer of the Pipe, a new generation comes of age to carry on the legacy of a proud and noble culture. A child of destiny has been born to the Southern band of the Elk-Dog People. Wolf Pup, son of Dark Antelope, chief tracker and scout, demonstrates an instinct for the ways of the wild. But as time passes, he proves that he is much more than a tracker of animals. And it is in the lodge of his grandfather, Singing Wolf, that he comes to seek his true calling: medicine man and future bearer of the Story Skins, the pipe, and the sacred Spanish bit. But before he can seize his destiny, Wolf Pup must undertake a perilous vision quest into the wilderness.
