Synopsis:
Biafra lost its independence through British colonial conquests in the late 17th century. Throughout the years of colonialism, Biafra never accepted subjugation at the hands of Britain. In 1914, the British governor general amalgamated the hitherto independent indigenous communities of Biafra with the northern nations. The reasons given was for ease of governance, as the southern states are very rich in natural resources, the northern region would benefit if the two regions were merged into one. Amalgamation was not able to unify the peoples of these different nations due to their natural differences in every aspect of their existence. Being forced together, had had the singular result of unending conflicts throughout the last 100 years. A war had been fought and consistent genocide is the result of the unending conflict in the country Nigeria. the eastern region has again risen to extricate itself from the carnage life have turned out to be for the peoples. This time around, they have challenged violence (woto-woto) with resistance first by peaceful demonstration: this was met with armed violence against the indigenous people by Nigeria. Indigenous people responded by declaring 'sit-at-home' which started as once a year civil disobedience. Nigeria commenced indiscriminate killings. In 2016, more than 100 youths gathered for prayers at Aba were killed there at a public school field. Nigeria declared operation python dance at which the army tried to kill the leader of the Biafran movement. He escaped, but 28 people were killed and the parents of the leader died in the aftermath of the assault. Today, woto-woto is the message from the army and woto-woto is the response because Biafra have refused to back down.
