Bora Bora, impressions of an island, is Erwin Christian's latest book. Since settling in Bora Bora in 1965, this self-taught photographer kept his sensibility as fine-tuned as his camera, capturing the essence of his island’s moods and its unique natural beauty. Bora Bora, impressions of an island, is a fresco of 96 colour photographs through which Erwin Christian leads us to discover his island from the air, from far away at sea, or through the interior of a tropical forest, where he photographed petroglyphs and stones shaped by ancient Polynesians. We div with him into the underwater fairyland of the island's magnificent lagoon and outside the reef amongst barracuda and sharks, He reveals his fascination with Mount Otemanu, immortalized by his camera as if on the first day of its creation. Bora Bora, impressions of an island, is above all a testimony of Erwin Christian’s profound respect towards the islanders. In his images taken during the Heiva festivities there is more than the conventionally beautiful; they reflect well the marvelous and enviable Polynesian joie de vivre.
