The Bronx Memoir Project (BMP), sponsored by the Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA), is a celebrated literary initiative designed to support and amplify the voices of Bronx residents through memoir writing. Open to avocational and professional writers of all ages and walks of life, the program offers a space for reflection, storytelling, and creative growth. The Bronx Memoir Project Volume IX, is a multi-genre anthology written during the 2024-2025 Bronx Memoir Project Workshop Series. This year’s anthology centers on the theme, Body, Memory, Witness: Weaving Personal Histories. From the stories our bodies carry to the inherited legacies that shape us, from the landscapes that define our journeys to the pivotal moments of self-discovery, this collection serves as a powerful testament to the act of writing as remembrance, healing, and bearing witness. This anthology gathers a vibrant collection of personal narratives shaped by the rich, diverse textures of Bronx life. We are proud to share this latest volume and celebrate the storytellers who make it possible. Founded by visionary community leaders in 1962, the Bronx Council on the Arts is a pioneer in advancing cultural equity in The Bronx. From our early beginnings as a presenter of affordable arts programming in select Bronx neighborhoods, we have grown into a cultural hub that serves the entire creative ecosystem of the borough. Our programs serve artists, the public, and the field at large by building connections, providing resources, and advocating for equitable practices. We offer free programs for seniors and youth and provide direct services to over 1,500 artists and 250 community-based arts groups each year.
