Building Hope: Confident Certainty in Unceasing Uncertainty

If hope was ever needed in our world, it is now. With the deluge of media coverage and the incessant barrage of information from anywhere and everywhere on our planet, it is oftentimes simply too much to handle. And most of it is truly tragic and causes us to be overwhelmed and left feeling hopeless. But we, as those born again in Christ, believers in God and all He has to say, have a Hope within us that cannot be shaken no matter what happens around us…or at least, that is what should be true of each of us. But far too often, we come across just as fearful and seemingly hopeless as unbelievers. Now is the time for the men and women of Jesus Christ to be beacons of light and hope during these times of uncertainty and anxiety. The Bible says in 1 Peter 3:15 to “be ready always to give an answer to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that is within you.” Consequently, we should be a people who are available to be used by God as shining models of hope in the midst of the darkness and despair of others. This book, composed of sermons, book chapters, and essays, provides us with a vast number of scriptures and applications of hope being lived and evidenced through normal life. These messages will encourage you, challenge you, and exhort you to allow “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27) to radiate through you into the lives of those within your own circle of influence and beyond. It is essential that we remember that true, enduring hope is a Person—Jesus Christ. This is contrasted with what the world thinks of when it considers hope—positivity, optimism, good feelings, desires, powerful wishes, etc. But for those who are in Christ and in whom Christ lives, hope is a fact—settled, certain, dependable, knowable. Hope is immutable truth awaiting full revelation when Christ Himself comes to rule and reign on earth as its rightful King. As those in whom Hope lives, and as those who are already eternal citizens of Christ’s kingdom, we have the wonderful privilege of being radiant witnesses for Him now in this life, through the confident, humble, patient, gentle, and respectful evidence of His grace and love. It is my prayer that your own sense of Hope will deepen and expand as a result of spending time with the wisdom contained within these pages.
