Description
From the front flap of this 128 page book: "In 'The Complete Old Wives' Lore for Gardeners', Maureen and Bridget Boland's best-selling 'Old Wives' Lore for Gardeners' and 'Gardener's Magic' are reissued in one volume. Both books are full of nuggets of gardening wisdom, gathered from acquaintances and books ancient and modern, mingling folklore and superstition with sound common sense. Did you know that it is best to sow seed during a waxing moon. That garlic deters greenfly from roses. That hollyhocks thrive on beer. And a bridal bedchamber be fumigated with burning leaves and fruit of the bramble as a magic protection against any evil wished upon the couple by disappointed rivals. The original colored woodcut decorations are retained in these enchanting classics, and this handsome volume makes an ideal present for gardeners and all lovers of lore and legend."
