Covering Christmas

In the first half of the 20th century magazines were a central part of American life, helping to make us what we were and showing us what we had become. The cover was believed to be the most important aspect of the magazine, stating by its appearance the tone of the publication and defining its audience. Many great illustrators labored in this era to create month after month of powerfully attractive covers.
