Introduction: Mormon Faith and the Psychology of Longevity
This work examines the psychological connections between adherence to the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called Mormon faith) and potential correlations with increased longevity. Drawing on religious texts such as The Book of Mormon, the study explores how doctrines, rituals, missionary service, and community practices promote mental resilience, health stewardship, and social cohesion — factors linked with longer life spans.
Chapter One: Doctrine and Ritual
Key principles include moral living, abstinence from harmful substances, regular spiritual observance, and service. Ritual practices such as Sunday worship — often featuring only a piano and congregational hymns — create a calm, reflective environment conducive to mental wellbeing.
Chapter Two: Missionary Life and Priesthood Experience
Missionary work fosters discipline, adaptability, and interpersonal skills through cross-cultural exchange and structured daily routines. Priesthood responsibilities provide members with leadership experience and spiritual accountability, reinforcing identity and purpose.
Chapter Three: The Book of Mormon and Global Translation Efforts
The Book of Mormon exists in many languages, enabling diverse populations to access its message, yet as of 2026, it is not fully available in Haitian Creole. The text includes sections such as the seven chapters of Moroni — covering themes of spiritual integrity, warnings against rejecting divine truth (termed in scripture as “barbarian” towards spiritual knowledge), and reflections on moral clarity.
Chapter Four: Moral Framework – Loss of Common Sense and Ability to Be Human
Rejecting divine principles is described, in theological terms, as leading to a loss of moral discernment and humane capacity. The concept of “toxic empathy” is applied to compassion that disregards divine direction, contrasting genuine Christ-centered empathy with secular sentiment.
Chapter Five: Ministry in Unique Contexts
The faith’s outreach includes a church prison ministry, offering spiritual counseling, educational studies, moral rehabilitation pathways, and community reintegration support.
Chapter Six: Being a Peacemaker from Within
The text emphasizes internal spiritual peacemaking before external reconciliation. Members share personal testimonies of miracles and divine guidance, reinforcing belief in living prophets and apostles, beginning with foundational figures such as Joseph Smith.
Chapter Seven: Gender and Age-Specific Sunday Studies
Survey data examines differences between male, female, and youth-focused Sunday school lessons. Men’s and women’s groups often explore distinct theological applications relevant to life roles, while youth studies focus on foundational doctrine, moral choice, and peer faith discussions.
