Sister Jane notes her academic achievements, which include a doctorate focused on medieval literature, and her years of teaching. That period led to a lifelong interest in Eastern spirituality. The reader learns of her part in founding two agencies that assist these in need, and other efforts to help the poor and the disenfranchised. Her devotion to the poor has gone beyond western Massachusetts as has her commitment to the causes of peace, justice and non-violence. There are chapters about her taking part in protests Ñ and bring arrested, and her experiences in Colombia, Bolivia, and in Guatemala, where she came to know and be moved by the life of St. Hermano Pedro. The book also details her diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer, as she confronts ÒSister Death.Ó This memoir, from childhood to the present, tells a story of faith and hope and includes occasional moments of humor.
