These civil rights era plays begin with Governor James E. “Big Jim” Folsom’s first term, a time when the Dixiecrats walked out of the 1948 National Democratic Convention in Philadelphia, because Hubert Humphrey had introduced a civil rights plank in the platform, but also a time when Governor Folsom called for racial equality in his 1949 Christmas message. The plays end in the late 1980s when investigators are reopening the case of the Klan bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham and secrets found in an old law firm safe are unearthed.
