Description
"Lace up your hiking boots! Let Griffin guide you over granite mountains, through thunderstorms, and wildflower-studded meadows." —Barbara Olson Lawrence, author of the forthcoming Drawing Water
At fifty, she chose adventure over fear.
After the sudden loss of her best friend, Joan Griffin could have retreated. Instead, she made a bold decision: to hike the 200-mile John Muir Trail through California’s breathtaking High Sierra.
Now—not someday.
Joined by two strong, spirited women also in their fifties, Joan steps onto the trail ready for exploration and discovery. The mountains deliver both. Lightning storms crack across alpine passes. Snowfields and river crossings demand grit. Long climbs test endurance. Yet with every mile, confidence grows—and so does joy.
Along the way, the trio forms an unexpected bond with a young hiker in need of support, creating a cross-generational sisterhood that deepens the journey. What begins as a physical challenge becomes something far greater: a celebration of friendship, courage, and the exhilaration of pushing beyond self-imposed limits.
As they approach the summit of Mount Whitney, Joan realizes the trail hasn’t just tested her strength—it has revealed it.
Force of Nature is an inspiring memoir of adventure, connection, and the life-changing power of saying yes to the next challenge.
