Forged In Hellfire

I heard the most blood-curdling scream I think I have ever heard in my life. I looked up to see a guy taking three stairs at a time, coming from 400 range, with another guy chasing him. The guy doing the chasing was holding a sword! He took a Mark McGuire swing at the guy he was chasing. I watched a good chunk of the guy’s scalp hit the steps. Violence, murder, drugs, and alcohol, indifference, hate, and all manner of evil surrounded me from all sides while incarcerated for twenty-five years. I became numb to violence and indifferent to living or dying, so I lived a relatively reckless existence until I finally wanted to change. This is my story. David was a Department of Labor trained fireman who served in the prison fire department for twelve years. He is a black belt in Jujitsu and proficiently trained in Krav Maga. David holds a Bachelors degree in English from Ball State University and an Associates degree in Computer Business from Ivy Tech. He was a mentor in the People's Living Units Serve (PLUS) program and a counselor in the Recovery While Incarcerated (RWI) program. Also, David served as a board member for the 10 to Freedom program for four years. He developed the physical fitness program at Miami Correctional Facility for the PLUS Graduate Program. David served out twenty-five years in the Indiana Department of Corrections. David and his wife are beginning a nonprofit for troubled youth and he is currently working in jail ministry.
