After spending three years in the Canadian Women's Army Corps as a Japanese Linguist for the U.S. Army's G-2 Intelligence Section at the secret Camp Ritchie outside Washington, DC, Diana Burdett wasn't ready to hang up her uniform. But the Pacific War ended and the idea of returning to her home in the village of Steveston, BC, Canada and getting married, was not her cup of tea. She had a "backup" fiancé waiting in the wings, but she just wasn't ready to settle down. Through the army grapevine, she heard rumors about opportunities for Japanese translators. On the advice of a couple of Australian soldiers, she and her friend Florence Whiting, another CWAC and linguist, got themselves discharged from the army, and applied as civilians to work for General MacArthur's Allied Occupation Government in Tokyo. In the late summer of 1946, the girls were off on a ship departing from Seattle and bound for Japan and the most incredible adventures they could imagine in The Land Of The Rising Sun.
