This teaching storybook is unique in that each page, of the storybook adventure, consists of three sections. First of all is the story itself, based on the characters’ activities. Secondly, there are from one to three Bible verses as teaching tools on the story topic. Lastly, there are brief words of wisdom from Poppy. This is a book that will be best enjoyed together with a child and an adult. Poppy, the storybook’s mystical teacher/narrator, will be teaching and speaking the Word of God throughout this book. Poppy reflects Jesus’ light to the world. Through him, the characters in the story will learn firsthand how to live a life that is good, acceptable, and pleasing to God. The light of Jesus will shine through each of them. Poppy represents the talking donkey from the Bible Book of Numbers, chapter 22, where God shows His sense of humor by speaking through a donkey. A portion is included at the back of the storybook. ONCE upon a time, there was a Christian family of five, the St. James family, that lived on a small farm nestled in beautiful tree—topped mountains. In the weathered red barn lived all their farm animals. There was Brownie, a cow, along with her calf and two horses named Peanut and Cashew. The children loved to hug and ride the horses when there was no school work or chores to do. There was also a female pig, Susie, with her piglets, several chickens for eggs, and Red, a noisy proud rooster. During the day the animals would freely roam the farm and fenced pastures, feeding on the lush green grass. There was a pond of fresh water in the pasture and beyond that were woods to explore. The mother was home each day to care for the home and schooling of the three children. Every weekday the father went to work at a home construction company. He and the children shared the farm chores in the mornings and evenings. They all loved each other very much. The family had been struggling with their Christian faith and the ability to live it trusting in God’s love. They were caught up in daily tasks and did not have time to visit with Jesus. This day would prove to be especially difficult.
