Gracie The Purple Chicken: Based On A True Story

Hi, It's nice to meet you. I'm Gracie the Purple Chicken! You may be wondering how I got my name. Well, I know it might SEEM obvious, but the story of how it all happened is one you probably won't expect...It all began last spring in the feed store when Mama Hen said goodbye to this baby girl and left me in the pen with those other baby chicks. Every day I hoped Mama would come back, but she never did. One day, a kind Farmer visited the feed store and adopted me to live on his farm. I can still remember the bumpity ride home in the old green truck with the Farmer and his large black dog, named Champ. Champ and I quickly became fast friends. As a new chick in the coop, I was grateful for a warm heat lamp and the closeness of the other mama hens. Being the smallest, I got pushed around a lot. A mama hen named Miss Bossy Pants would sometimes block me from getting to the food dish, and this made the other chicks laugh at me. I got teased and "pecked" on because I was clumsy and not very good at sports. One day, Miss Bossy Pants and the other hens surrounded me. They began "pecking" me with mean words. Champ came and stood up for me. Champ made sure I was safe, then went to get the Farmer. I fell asleep and had an unusual dream. A favorite part of my dream is when Champ speaks over me and breaks off all the hurtful words and then blesses me with words that make me feel safe and loved. In the dream, I received my new name, "Gracie the Purple Chicken." When I woke up, the Farmer was there and he said to Champ, "you are my witness...we have a PURPLE Chicken!" I was even wearing a crown! More importantly, I felt different. I felt WONDERFUL! I waved at Miss Bossy Pants and she actually waved back!
