Historically Black Love: The Golden Era

The magical summer of ninety-five at the historically Black Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, was special to me in more ways than one. I fell in love for the first time in my existence. As a young Hip-Hopper, I was transformed from trying to be a full-time player to falling head over heels for a redbone I just met from the Mid-West. Shit was bugged and hit me like a ton of bricks. Everything was genuinely overwhelming and happened so fast and fell perfectly into place. It felt like a dream to the greatest extent; it was difficult to fathom this was happening to me. I'm sure I would have never earned my bachelor's degree if she didn't come into my life. Like Superwoman, this Redbone swooped down and scooped me up just in the nick of time. At that moment, love simply captured my heart wholly and instantly. I had nothing to do with the matter and couldn't deny it or resist; it was no use trying to. It was like I was captured in a net of love. The webby emotional mesh of love cast over my complete being nullified any doubts it was anything else. I was a sophomore at a historically Black college—falling in love with any female was the last thing on my mind. Like most other HBCU college sophomores, I was living in the moment without a care in the world; the soundtrack of my days was Biggie's classic anthem: Party and Bullshit.
