HOW TO GROW DIAMONDS IN A GARDEN (Season 1): AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF POETRY PRECEDED BY GROWTH

DISCLOSURE: While this series of spoken word poems and how they came to life are inspired by actual persons and events, certain characters, characterizations, incidents, locations and dialogue were fictionalized or invented for purposes of dramatization. TRAILER PREVIEW: The title How To Grow Diamonds In A Garden was mostly inspired by the late great Tupac Shakur's poetry book The Rose That Grew From Concrete. It's just as much of a struggle for a rose to grow through concrete as it is to grow a diamond in a garden. I wasn't a huge fan of Tupac musically, mostly due to taking sides during the East Coast vs West Coast hip hop war of the 90's. I admired how his books was put together whereas the scribble he may have had in a journal or rhyme book mirrored the legible copy that accompanied every piece. This made me reflect on something Oprah Winfrey or Maya Angelou said about writing everything down so your voice will always be remembered. The garden specifically represents Amhurst Garden, the housing project I grew up in. The garden also symbolizes the good and bad environments, people and situations I had to deal with. The diamonds are the hard life lessons gained and the person that came out on the other side shining "Bright Like A Diamond", in the words of my imaginary baby mama, Rihanna. The diamonds are also the poem themselves.
