Humor In Chess IV (Chess Humor)

When the Denker Tournament Committee was founded, there were three members: GM Arnold Denker, Dewain Barber and Ralph Bowman. Dewain and Ralph wanted to make sure that there was financial support for the National Scholastic Chess Invitationals so they came up with the idea of a series of books called Humor In Chess with all the profits from those books going to the National Scholastic Chess Invitationals. This book contains 149 stories submitted by 44 different contributors. Below are two examples from this book: Bob Basalla was teaching about the development of the chess pieces. Pointing to unused pieces left behind on the first rank, he asked, “Are these pieces on vacation?” often adding, “Sitting this one out?” It makes the point. Zane Soper wrote, “While I was playing in a tournament during a chess camp, I lost my tooth. We had to pause the game so I could safely stow my tooth away. I lost the game, but I got a dollar from the tooth fairy.”
