In Mt. Diablo's Shadow, Volume 7: An Anthology of Prose and Poetry

This book was inspired by Kati Short, Poet Laureate Emeritus, who left a rich legacy with In Mt. Diablo's Shadow Volumes 1-6. This collection of poems began in Spring 2025 when I reached out to my daughter's Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Katie Bernard. I told her about the project and she enthusiastically shared poems from her sixth grade students. Many from our Brentwood Open Mic group contributed to Volumes 1-6, and were excited to continue the tradition with the Volume 7 anthology. The Grassroots Poetry Open Mic in Antioch had poets who shared their talent. Poets are everywhere and began to come out of the wood work: Amazon distribution worker, Coca-Cola worker, neurologist, immigrants, historian, librarian, architect, veterans, and students. People from ages 12-77 are included in this book. What I love about poetry is it is a fantastic way to get to know people. The writing is so personal. I have enjoyed reading each and every poem, prose, song and story and cherish the friendships I have made along this journey. ~ Maria Denney
