Indigenous Anarchy, Performative Nihilism, and “No Spiritual Surrender”: As Seen from Raven’s Eye

Contemporary radical Indigenous politics in North America are largely made up of verbal and written performances which lack physical grounding and material backing. This controversial book openly criticizes a recent version of such "Indigenous Performative Politics": the late Diné activist Klee Benally’s No Spiritual Surrender: Indigenous Anarchy in Defense of the Sacred. This book’s intention is not to wholly discount Klee’s vigorous voice of resistance and all the efforts made through his actions, literature, and music. Yet that history does not mean we shouldn’t honestly question the ultimate usefulness of Klee’s message in regards to adequately confronting our situation in the 21st Century.
