Gibran was born in Bsharri, Lebanon, to a Maronite Christian family. He was raised in a culturally diverse environment, which allowed him to gain an appreciation for different cultures and perspectives. He moved to the United States in 1895, and studied art in various Boston schools. His work was greatly influenced by his cultural heritage, but also by the works of European masters such as Michelangelo, Rembrandt, and the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
