Description
In 1826, William S. Byrd, a member of a prominent American family, converted to the Shaker faith and joined the Shaker community at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky. The backbone of this book is a collection of 19 letters he wrote to his father, a federal judge in Ohio during his time at Pleasant Hill. Nine other closely related documents are included, making this a small but important body of primary material.
