Section I: Terms and Metaphysics includes lessons on the three acts of the mind, the nature of terms, the concepts of comprehension and extension, Aristotle’s predicables, and the four causes. Section II: Propositions and Epistemology examines the structure of categorical propositions, including conversion, obversion, and the square of opposition. The appendix includes selections from Plato’s Republic and Euthyphro, Euclid’s Elements, Aristotle’s Metaphysics, Descartes’ Discourse on Method, Francis Bacon’s Novum Organum, and John Locke’s An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, among others.
