Description
Theme:
Against the benchmark of righteous and honorable men, we are all caricatures [cartoons] of humanity.
Book I introduces readers to Orthodox culture: Melville & Bernard encounter The Goohlag Gang—born to no one and raised by wolves in Siberia—comprised of Kalashnikov, Dragoon, Harum-scarum, Vasliev, amongst a cadre of other colorful characters.
A Clue:
Little ones, little ones of anywhere, USA…
Welcome to the cartoon world,
Welcome to the Funnies.
Enjoy the mystery—the magic, tricks and games…
It’s been invented by the antics
Who are called many different names:
Horseplay, foul play, betray… even radioactive decay…
But weeeeeeeeeee’s all Toons, little ones;
So, it’s only fun fun fun and child’s play…
To save your skins become to me, as I won’t become to you.
The answer hides in-between the lines
Of black, and white, and red and blue.
Description:
In 1950s Levittown, NY, identical twins Melville & Bernard Barlow love sleuthing; after all, 'Detective Bogester' of the Sunday Funnies is their favorite cartoon character. However, when the twins decide to form their very own detective agency, the first mystery they tackle not only leads to a talking British hound, odd WWII creatures named Xxoonies (a German discovery within a secret lab outside Berlin), and eccentric spies from both sides of the Cold War, the children soon discover that the cherished cartoon world of 'Detective Bogester' may not be that different from their own.
Snippet:
“Do you have any field work experience?” trumpeted Captain Archibald. “Operations, I mean, of course! Can you juice a Pineapple in under sixty seconds under pressure from the ‘Ack-Ack’ Squad in the middle of old man Winter when your trash can is as full as a hole?”
“Was that a poem?” Bernard asked of Captain Archibald’s poetic reference to handling weapons under enemy attack in winter with no food. A question of durability and fortitude, to be sure. Bernard’s probing voice came through the intercom between the two rooms.
“Was that even proper English?” Peggie Sue agreed. “Even British people d—"
“Quiet, soldiers,” von Sortly bellowed, pushing on the receiver button. “You will speak when spoken to. There is a Chain of Command in the Funnies.” He turned and asked, “Any more questions for the grunts, captains?”
The human, the pig, the elephant, and the bird looked at each other and the pig turned back to the one-way glass with expectant but invisible brows. “Are they at least clever with a riddle?”
von Sortly simply smiled wide, his chiclet teeth beaming off the yellow fluorescent overhead lights.
