Moses is the ninth oratorio composed by Dan Montez. The oratorio covers the traditional plot points including the birth of Moses, the burning bush, the ten plagues, the institution of the passover, the parting of the red sea, the blessing of manna, the failed attempt of Israel to hear God’s voice for themselves, and Moses receiving the commandments. Montez's influences mentioned by others include Ravel, Poulenc, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Rachmaninov, and Puccini. Melodies are highly accessible and lush. In liturgical works are highly inspirational and moving. Orchestra parts are available from Taconic Opera (taconic opera.org) and wholenotepublishing.com. Performance time is about 1 hour and 10 minutes. English.
