Description
The National Writers Series (NWS) is a year-round book festival held in Traverse City, MI. Although we are well-known for hosting world-class and best-selling authors from around the globe, our mission is to support young writers by offering free creative writing classes to our region.
Each year, NWS showcases the work of our Raising Writers and our Front Street Writers programs. This year, we expanded our reach to the Manistee community, and we are proud to feature these wonderful middle school and high school students in the National Writers Series Literary Journal. This year, we have also included students from the Writers Studio at the Northwest Ed Career Tech. It is with great pleasure that we have assembled this journal and we celebrate the students commitment to the literary arts.
You’ll find stories, essays, poems, a play, and excerpts from novels writ- ten by students throughout their courses and semester-long studies. NWS has been honored to work alongside some of our regions best creative writing teachers who have devoted their time, energy, and compassion in mentoring students towards their creative dreams.
NWS is dedicated to building the skills of our future storytellers, poets, playwrights, and more. We are looking forward to continuing our educational offerings and are grateful to the countless individuals who have helped make this journal possible. These free creative writing classes would not be possible without the support and dedication of our com- munity. If you are interested in supporting our programs, please contact NWS Executive Director Anne Stanton at director@nwstc.org. You can find more information about our classes, scholarships, and more at nation- alwritersseries.org.
