On Glass

I am acutely aware of the beauty of Kate’s words, sewn together like a richly embroidered tapestry. There are threads of gold and silver drawing together the shimmer of these pieces. Kate embeds gems into each poem, as in her poem “Any Morning,” retracing slopes/of possibility and regret, or in “Ice Storm in Spring,” ice wrapped/each bough in wrenching loveliness. And in “Patch of Light on the Wall,” an opportune angle of morning sun/a particular arrangement of branches outside. These are but a few examples of Kate’s brilliance. We are treated to an additional layer of artistic talent, as Kate shares with us some of her artwork that accompanies many of the poems in this collection, On Glass. It has been an honor bringing this luminous collection to print. I hope that you, the reader, will slide into the pages of this book and experience her stunning songs.
