Description
Cancer surgery may be necessary, but that doesn’t make it easy.
There’s the fear before the operation, the pain and exhaustion afterward, and the waiting to hear what the pathology report will say. There may be scars you never wanted, changes you weren’t prepared for, and the frightening possibility that surgery won’t be the end of treatment.
Prayers for Cancer Surgery was written for the moments when you want to trust God but don’t know what to say.
These honest, deeply personal prayers meet you through the full experience of cancer surgery, including:
• Preparing for surgery and facing the fear of what could happen
• Waking up in pain and adjusting to a body that has been changed
• Needing help with ordinary, private, and basic things
• Waiting for pathology results and wondering whether the cancer has spread
• Hearing that the margins aren’t clear or that more treatment may be needed
• Grieving what surgery took and learning to live with scars
• Struggling with body image, intimacy, exhaustion, and slow recovery
• Returning for follow-up appointments and facing the fear of future scans
• Learning to trust your body and God with the days ahead
These prayers won’t pressure you to stay positive, pretend you aren’t afraid, or call every painful part of this experience a blessing. They make room for grief, anger, disappointment, uncertainty, and the kind of exhaustion that reaches deeper than the body.
Each prayer is paired with Scripture and written in a warm, plainspoken voice that sounds like a real person talking honestly to God. There are no easy promises about healing or what the next test will show. Instead, these pages offer a steady reminder that God remains present before surgery, through recovery, and in every unanswered question that follows.
Written by two-time cancer survivor Emerick Gray, Prayers for Cancer Surgery is for anyone facing cancer surgery or trying to recover from what it changed.
You may not feel brave. You may not feel ready. You don’t have to find the perfect words.
