In France the Lumiere Brothers made one of the first movies. The subject matter was works leaving a factory at the end of their shift. They made more of these short movies and soon “moviehouses” as they were called were cropping up in the oddest places. Washington, Iowa, Picton, Ontario, Pittsburgh and Montreal Quebec. At first theses moving pictures were a novelty. After the movie became longer they exploded in popularity. At their height 80 million American were going to the movies once a week. This book is reflection the history of the movies and a forward glimpse to the future of what we now call motion picture exhibition. This is a discussion on how are we going to maintain and grow this amazing artform. How are we grow community throw the movies and counter the insularity epidemic that our society seems to be facing. This book in a celebration and a plea to see the impact movies have had on our society and can have again. This book entitled “Reinventing the Movies” is a call to reflect upon the cinematic tradition. Bill Dever is a movie fan, a writer and a movie producer. He is the author of “The Monster That Ate The Movies”, producer of 14 feature length movies, a movie distributor and a once proud owner of a drive-in. Thanks for reading
