The Rethinking of Equity is a paradigm shift in education that supports a focus on the implementation of a systems approach that aligns a school district’s educational programming to foster educational attainment for all students, particularly in vulnerable, underserved communities. This Rethinking of Equity rejects the development of programming for programming sake but calls on legislators and educational leaders to methodically implement evidence-based, best practices so that Students of Color will be given equal access to and opportunity for college and career attainment. The George Washington Carver Education Foundation views equity from this perspective and has developed five design principles that will methodically build a pipeline for college and career attainment for all students, regardless of demographics, disadvantages, or deficiencies. As Carver Foundation Partner Schools (CFPS) start the process of rethinking equity in education, these five design principles will guide educational leaders toward a system that will foster the highest performance for all students while making sure each student reaches his/her maximum potential for long-term success in school, college, career, and life.
