A whimsical, moving tale about Savannah Valley, the country’s most exclusive retirement community for the uber-rich. Set outside Savannah, Georgia, this fictional community is filled with mansions, Rolls Royce Phantoms, and ladies who lunch. Four rich widows; Glenda, Edith, Darcy, and Sharon are looking forward to their golden years with everything taken care of. Then the amenities they have paid for–were promised–begin disappearing. The activities became tiresome and repetitive, the tee times on the lush golf course were always taken, and the late dinners with cocktails were no longer allowed when the kitchen started closing early. All of a sudden, it felt like their wonderful retirement was little more than a cheap motel. Something was definitely not right. These women ran companies and made their own fortunes. They knew when they were being handed a load of bull. No one can take advantage of these smart, sassy women. Loud-out-loud hilarious, these women are not ready to give up anything they worked so hard for. Excerpted Review from Valerie Taylor on Booktrib.com At first blush, Mitzi Perdue’s Rich Widows of Savannah Valley appears to be a tale reminiscent of The Golden Girls, albeit far wealthier girls to be sure. But this is more than a story of the glory days. The story shifts when the quality of the life they were promised at Savannah Valley starts to fray at more than just the edges. The wealthy have problems, too, even if on a different scale than we simple folks do. An Important underlying message As the story unfolds, the author reveals the true meaning of this delightful tale in the Epilogue: to help raise awareness of social justice issues through the eyes of these four well-meaning ladies. In her message to us, author Mitzi Perdue — herself an activist with special interests in the environment and in human trafficking — invites the reader to contact her directly about serious issues that have an impact on our own lives. Bottom line: Mitzi Perdue is putting her money and influence where her fingertips are. And to that, I say Brava, dear lady!
