Molly Medavoy is having a hard time remembering she’s a kid since her father Frank took off on an “extended tour of the Southwest” that never ends. Life with her mother Twig and her quirky little sister Arlene is no picnic. Twig spends most of her days exploring ways to lose weight, while Arlene lines up cold cuts on the linoleum floor. Molly digs deeper into the books she borrows from the library, looking for some answers, wondering if a dad like Atticus Finch really exists. No one pays much attention to Molly - no one but Uncle Timmy, the long-lost Medavoy who shows up on the front stoop. It’s up to Molly to figure things out for herself as she watches the world spin, from November of 1963 until that tumultuous decade comes to an end. For Molly, the search for an Atticus of her own unearths a few secrets better left buried. About the Author: Since 1995, Janice Harvey has been the lead columnist for the independent newspaper Worcester Magazine, winning numerous awards for excellence in humor, and serious column writing and reporting, from the New England Better Newspaper Association. In 2012, Harvey published a collection of her favorite columns for local readers to enjoy. Harvey recently retired after 30 years in public education and lives in Massachusetts, surrounded by kids and grandkids, while working on a second novel set in her beloved city of Worcester. What Other Writers Say About Janice “Janice Harvey is a treasure. Smart, cynical, wickedly funny, and honest. She can make readers laugh, cry, and think – sometimes all at the same time. She can turn a phrase like nobody’s business, and is adept at cutting to the heart of the matter, allowing the reader to see things they never noticed before. Lastly, she’s a hoot.” Dianne Williamson, columnist, Worcester Telegram & Gazette “Janice Harvey is a shy, bashful … oops, that was the blurb for Emily Dickinson. Harv is brash and fearless and has a laugh like Woody Woodpecker. True story. She once made me laugh so hard I threw my head back and smashed it on a blackboard. She writes real funny, too with a voice as distinctively “Wista” as Tubert’s or the Big Guy’s. More importantly, Harv – when she writes about her old man’s final days or a lifelong friendship – will break your heart because she always writes from hers. She’s a wicked good writer.” Paul Della Valle, writer, Massachusetts Troublemakers “Janice Harvey has good eyes. And a chip on her shoulder nearly as big as the heart in her chest. When she sits down to make sense of a world of hard streets, hardboiled cops, good kids, mean girls, lifetime buddies and disgusting politicos – the world of Worcester and beyond – her wiseass side battles with the softie to see who can spin the story best. The ebb and flow of this donnybrook molds Harvey’s columns into magical, essential, pictures of the real life of a real woman in the real world.” Walter Crockett, Writer, musician “Janice Harvey is one of Worcester’s genuine voices – made unique by that unmistakable Columbus Park accent. Funny, irreverent, insightful, and engaged, Harvey has spent years recording her particular vision of the city in all its pathos, charm, and absurdity. Her column is always a delight because she understands that ole wormtown is always teeming with stories and she has the talent to capture them in clean, clear prose. Like her hometown, Harvey is gutsy, resilient, and forever cool” Jack O’Connell, Novelist “Box Nine”
