Seth Jefferson McKee was born in McGehee, Arkansas, in 1916, and spent most of his childhood in Cape Girardeau Missouri. He rose form a rural farm boy to become one of America's most highly decorated members of the United States Air Force.McKee was an active participant in the liberation of Europe in WWII, Commander of US Forces Japan and 5th Air Force during Vietnam, on the front lines of the Cold War, and Commander-in-Chief of NORAD. At the time of his death at the age of 100 in December of 2016, he was the oldest four-star general in our nation as well as the highest-ranking survivor of the D-day Invasion, where he led a group of fighter planes providing air cover for the troops on the beach es of Normandy in 1944.During those years he flew his P-38 Lightning fighter-bomber (My Gal Sal) in Northern France, Germany, Ardennes-Alsace, and central Europe, logging 190 hours of flying time in 69 combat missions. He was promoted to Brigadier General at age 42, the youngest Air Force officer to be named a star rank. Seth J. McKee was an American hero, an American aviator, and an American icon.
