Joined by Felipe, Xavier, and Bronco, they followed the stolen herd into Mexico. In their absence, a rogue Chiricahua band attacked the ranch. Teresa took control of the defense and learned what it meant to be the woman in charge. The Callahan and Zamora party brought the cattle back to the ranch. Nolan, having had enough, went to the Fighting Cock cantina, where he drew a picture of the Dragoon Mountain brand on Jaso’s bar. Calling the attention of the banditos, he told them, “This is the Callahan brand. Tell your friends that anyone caught with a cow wearing this brand will have it burned on his tombstone.”
