The Fall of Stara Ves, set between 1913 and 1949, against the sprawling backdrop of two world wars, the Holocaust and the Russian Revolution, chronicles the lives of the impoverished Jewish Barnas and Orlovska families and their wealthy aristocratic in-laws, the land barons, the Kostechkas. As horrendous as these tragic times were, the tragedy that is truly played out into intimate focus is in the lives of the grandchildren of Zdedush and Veronika Barnas and their in-laws. The Fall of Stara Ves is more than the story of world changing events. It is the story of the disintegrating legacy of the Kostechka family, owners of a large, historic plantation in eastern Slovakia, who come to lose their power, dignity and fortune in the chaos of these two world wars.
